Newham Capacity Builders Working Group events – Newham, 31/10/11, 1/11/11, 3/11/11, 24/11/11

Newham Capacity Builders Working Group, which includes Aston-Mansfield Community Involvement Unit, Newham Voluntary Sector Consortium, the Forum for Health & Wellbeing and the Volunteer Centre Newham has organised three events to celebrate Trustees’ Week, as well as a follow-up event on the role of trustee. The events are also supported by Newham Council.

How Newham Council staff can get involved in local voluntary groups
Date: 31 October
Time: 12pm – 2pm
Venue: Information stall in the atrium at Newham Dockside

How to become more effective trustees
Date: 1 November
Time: (two sessions) 4pm – 6pm or 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Venue: Durning Hall Community Centre, Earlham Grove, Forest Gate, London E7 9AB

This event is aimed at current trustees of voluntary/community groups who are seeking to improve their effectiveness as committee members. Issues covered by the training will include:

- Responsibility of committee members to the organisation and how each affects and relates to the other
- The responsibility of each individual to the organisation
- How to recruit committee members
- Working together to combat difficult situations
- Retention of committee members – getting the best from your committee
- Induction, support, training and communication
- Codes of conduct

Places must be reserved in advance, spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Trustees’ Week networking evening
Date: 3 November
Time: 6pm – 8pm
Venue: Durning Hall Community Centre, Earlham Grove, Forest Gate, London E7 9AB

This networking event is for members of the public to find out more about becoming a trustee a local volunteer group. If your group needs more trustees, you can showcase your activities at this event. Stalls are limited and are allocated on first come first served basis.

Introduction to the role of trustee
Date: 24 November
Time: 10am – 2pm
Venue: tbc

This Trustees’ Week follow-up event is an introductory workshop about what’s involved in being a trustee.

  1. Just been to the Trustee Networking event at Durning Hall and found it to be very useful! We are looking for trustees and managed to find out some very useful information about being a trustee and contacts to follow up on. Also, it was really useful talking to other, small organisations about their own experiences of project management and in getting set up and looking for funding. Excellent event, thank you so much!
