Event round-up - Volunteering Oscars, Harrogate

Harrogate and Area Volunteer Centre hosted a volunteering awards ceremony to celebrate Trustees' Week 2011. The Volunteering Oscars included an award for Trustee of the Year.

The criteria for the award was to “celebrate the trustees, those that have demonstrated exceptional decision making, provided ongoing support and allowed their charitable organisations to perform at the peak of their potential, effectively achieving their objectives through the year.”

Twelve nominations were received for the category and the winner however was a gentleman Alan Stangroom (pictured), trustee of the Happy Wanderers.

His citation read: “The winner is a man who has worked for nearly 40 years behind the scenes of his organisation as a trustee, with 20 of those years spent as the chairman. Last year, he guided the charity in question, the Happy Wanderers, to yet another hugely successful year supporting the rising numbers of older and disabled people in Harrogate. Nominated by Les Sudron, this gentleman has never ceased to offer his all and is a hugely significant cog in the machinery of his organisation”.
