In times, such as these, with charities having to cope with serious financial pressures, it is vital that trustees have a reasonable understanding of charity accounts and the financial information that they need to exercise proper governance. To help with this, WCVA and Watts Gregory ran a seminar entitled Charity accounts for trustees during Trustees Week 2011.
The session gave an overview of the key elements of charity accounts – types of fund, activity based reporting, SOFAS etc - and covered common errors being made in charity accounts as reported by the Charity Commission. It also covered the financial information that a trustee should have to do their job properly.
The seminar was the first in a series of events that are being organised by WCVA for trustees. The next seminar Facing up to risk will take place on 8 December in Cardiff, and will examine the financial risks facing charities.
