More than 120 charity representatives attended the city’s second annual conference aimed at providing specialist help and advice during Trustees’ Week.
The free event, Building a Future, was organised by city accountants Rawlinsons. A number of high profile speakers from the charitable and financial sectors gave advice and tips on how charities and their trustees can work to strengthen their position now for future growth.
Last year’s inaugural conference was attended by around 50 delegates. Organisers were delighted to welcome more than double that number – 127 - to this year’s event, held at the city’s KingsGate Centre in Parnwell.
“The more people who attend, the more charities we are helping,” said Mark Jackson, partner at Rawlinsons. “These are difficult economic times and it is vital charities do everything they can to not just secure their present but to build the foundations for a secure future too.”
Delegates heard presentations from Mark as well as representatives from Peterborough Council for Voluntary Service, Institute of Fundraising East Anglia, Hunt and Coombs Solicitors, Peterborough City Council and Thomas Cook.
“It is vital that charity management teams and trustees have relevant and up to date information – this is the perfect way to deliver that directly to them,” said Mark. “We were delighted to hear so much positive feedback with people keen to start implementing suggestions they’d heard straight away.”
Trustees are the people in charge of a charity. They play a vital role, volunteering their time and working together to make important decisions about the charity's work. Trustees' Week is an annual event to showcase the great work that trustees do and highlight opportunities for people from all walks of life to get involved and make a difference. Trustees’ Week 2015 is 2–8 November, and is being officially launched at the NCVO / BWB Trustee Conference on 2 November 2015.
